Stories like Sergio’s are why we’re continuing our support for students at San Francisco State University. The Genentech Foundation’s $14M grant renewal will help provide hundreds more students with resources to help them complete their undergraduate education, transition into graduate school and pursue careers in STEM.

“I was able to tap into my inner confidence that everyone else saw in me, but I wasn't really tapping into because of my situation,” Sergio Gonzalez Jr. said of the impact of the Genentech Foundation Scholars program. Like many students, he was supporting himself. This program gave him the time and space to focus on research and achieve a 4.0 GPA. In the fall, he’ll start working on his Ph.D. at Vanderbilt University.

In recognition of #FoodAllergyAwarenessWeek, we hosted various events on campus to raise awareness about the severity of living with food allergies. First, we welcomed leaders from Food Allergy and Research Education (FARE) where they discussed all aspects of patient advocacy and how they work to meet the needs of patients, caregivers, and clinicians. Second, we hosted a conversation with food allergy patient, Riya, and her mom, Dr. Ruchi Gupta, who is a preeminent food allergy researcher. They shared their experience living with food allergies and Riya’s inspiring role in educating and empowering other kids with health conditions. We are appreciative to all of our guests who shared their personal experiences. Events like these reinforce the importance of supporting and raising awareness for the food allergy community.

Through our efforts to foster belonging and build community across our organization, we hope to create authentic spaces that elevate the voices and experiences of those who often go unheard. For #AANHPIHeritageMonth, we’re shining a spotlight on Lisa S. Wong, BSN, Principal Administrative Business Partner at our company, whose poem to her grandmother reminds us that there is unity in our differences, and whose reflections highlight the importance of active allyship. Check out her story and her poetry here:

Today we announced that the FDA granted #BreakthroughTherapyDesignation to our investigational treatment regimen for people with PIK3CA-mutated HR+/HER2- locally advanced or metastatic #breastcancer. PIK3CA mutations are found in approximately 40% of people with HR+ breast cancer, the most prevalent type of breast cancer. Comprehensive biomarker testing prior to initiating first-line treatment helps clinicians inform a personalized treatment approach. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/dzn_vFZs

Diversifying the scientific and medical workforce is linked to better healthcare access and outcomes for people of color. But in 2021, just 5% of doctoral degrees in STEM were awarded to Black candidates and just 8% to Latinx candidates. Changing this will require us all to challenge the status quo and shift our biased perceptions of which institutions can produce PhD talent and which students are capable of earning doctoral degrees. Read about our unique approach to diversifying the future healthcare workforce and see how the Genentech Foundation's recent $14M grant to San Francisco State University is helping equip students with the resources to succeed: http://spr.ly/6042dsQvm

Women bear a disproportionate burden when it comes to multiple sclerosis (MS), being three times more likely to be affected than men. At our company, we recognize this disparity and are committed to driving change. That's why we're partnering with patients, advocates, and the scientific community to improve our understanding of MS as well as other diseases that uniquely impact women. We continue to champion the health and well-being of women everywhere and are working to ensure that every woman has the resources and support they need to thrive. #WomensHealthMonth http://spr.ly/6048d1iWK
