Even on vacation, our team is drawn to #nonprofits! Our VP of Marketing & Communications, Heather Hise, traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico, with her family for spring break. While there, they participated in #responsibletourism with Fundación En Vía, a nonprofit that provides zero-interest micro business loans to women in six area villages to empower them to support themselves and their families and enrich their communities. Each loan recipient also participates in educational programming, such as English for business and budgeting/managing money. On the tour (which helps fund the loans), Heather and her family met five women who have built and grown businesses with help from En Via. They had lunch with a restauranteur, learned about making nieve (a non-dairy treat like sorbet), watched a wool-dyeing and weaving demonstration, heard from a hardware store owner, and enjoyed local eats and raspados (shaved ice drink) from another entrepreneur's mobile snack cart. Bottom line? Nonprofits change lives all over the world by responding to local needs with personalized solutions. We're in this together!
