Today's spotlight is on Gus Herbert who works in the areas of Employment Law and Commercial Litigation at GIH. After earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D. from the University of Virginia, Gus chose the area of Employment Law. He says this field interested him because it allows a client to work not just with counsel but also HR professionals and others who ensure compliance with legal requirements while still keeping the best interests of the company top of mind. Gus is an avid runner and enjoys going on runs with his wife. He also follows sports as a fan (particularly basketball and horse racing). He's even entered the world of coaching and has coached championship teams in basketball, soccer and baseball. He looks forward to someday retiring and traveling with his wife and enjoying time with their grandchildren. For now, Gus is an important member of our team and we're lucky to have him.

The Center for Nonprofit Excellence (CNPE) has partnered with the Association of Corporate Counsel – Kentucky (ACC) to offer the program Legal Help for Nonprofits. Gray Ice Higdon is proud to sponsor this event. Legal issues arise with nonprofits just like in any other business. It may be contracting, employment, venue liability, or even how to ensure that your nonprofit keeps its tax-exempt status. Through a series of talks and presentations, volunteer attorneys will cover legal issues and requirements common to nonprofit organizations and lead breakout sessions on specific topics that are relevant to you and your mission. Join us at our offices on March 21st to get the legal tools you need. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gWy7GUrr

Today we are putting the spotlight on Liliane Farias-Ferreira Miller, known around the firm as Lili. Lili is a Paralegal in our patent department. She earned her undergraduate degree from PUC-Rio de Janeiro Brazil-Law School, as well as a LL.M from Florida Coastal School of Law. She also earned two Master’s degrees in music (Music Education at Campbellsville University and Percussion-Performance at the University of Louisville). Her Paralegal Studies Associate’s Degree is from the University of Louisville. Lili enjoys this area of law because she is consistently exposed to new creations and inventions. However, her favorite class in law school was Labor Law. She says the discussions in class were always very interesting. Lili has been the Walnut Street Baptist Church drummer for 20 years and has been playing the drums in church since she was 16 years old. Her family is full of musicians and she says someday, when it’s time to retire, the whole family will find a warm place by a beach and enjoy playing music together.
