To celebrate “Bring Your Kid to Work Day,” we hosted 45 kiddos at our corporate headquarters in Greeley, CO. Participants took a virtual tour of our Italian meats facility, taste tested Pilgrim’s chicken, heard from company CEO Wesley Batista Filho and participated in several fun activities throughout the day!

As a part of our new Development Workshop series, Bill Munns, Head of Regional Beef Sales & Supply Chain, presented an in-depth overview of the beef industry. Bill, an employee of JBS for over 12 years, shared knowledge from his career at JBS as well as experience from his family ranch in Utah. During the presentation, Bill touched on various topics within the beef industry including US commodities, where JBS operates, global beef production, cattle types and breeds, fed cattle harvest, beef industry segments, the life cycle of various types of cattle and beef grading.

Last week, 175 members of our Supervisor Development Program, visited Colorado for three full days of leadership development and supervisor training sessions. These supervisors work in a variety of roles across many different US locations. Supervisors attending this event included both recently hired and established team members. At the end of the program all participants graduated from the Supervisor Development Program and are now equipped with skills to help them succeed in their role as a supervisor.  

In celebration of Earth Day, our team in Green Bay, WI, recently volunteered to clean up their community. Team members helped by cleaning up and picking up trash in the area. Great job, team Green Bay!

Our team in Elkhart, IN, recently announced a partnership with Acts of Service of Elkhart County. This partnership will allow our team in Elkhart to help make a difference in the lives of families in the Elkhart community. The first event our team members volunteered at was the Elkhart County 4-H Spring Eggstravaganzas Egg Hunt. Great work, Elkhart team!

Our team in Souderton, PA, was honored to have Pennsylvania Farm Bureau stop by our production facility for a tour. They also got the opportunity to hear from our cattle procurement team regarding the opportunities JBS provides cattle producers in the industry. JBS was proud to host 30 American Meat Science Association (AMSA) students as part of the JBS Global Ingenuity STEP (Student Training and Education Program), April 4-6, at our headquarters in Greeley, CO. The students traveled from the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and India to develop a loaded nugget and compete in the program. The teams of students not only created the product but also developed a business plan, marketing plan, packaging, nutrition labels and a sales/promotion plan. The winning team will be announced at the AMSA Reciprocal Meat Conference June 15-19, where samples of the winning product will be served. The winning team will also have their product brought to life, and it will potentially be sold in stores as a Pilgrim’s product. AMSA and JBS have a great partnership and hope to continue building opportunities in the future. Currently, JBS and AMSA host the National Western Stock Show Meat Judging Contest, they put on the JBS Global Ingenuity STEP Program, and they provide students involved in the meat industry several different financial and educational opportunities throughout the year. Marcia Reeves, Head of Research and Development for Pilgrim's stated, “The partnership between JBS and AMSA is vital to our organization because the student members that are involved in AMSA while attending college graduate and become great employees for us. We have many previous student and active professional AMSA members currently employed with JBS and Pilgrim’s through internships, trainee programs as well as full-time roles.”

Sarah C. Klopatek, PhD, Chief Livestock Scientist, has been selected as a 2024 Farm Foundation Young Agri-Food Leader. The program will actively engage emerging leaders in agribusiness and food in interactive learning and networking experiences. The learning and networking will be focused on allowing these leaders to gain a deeper understanding of the food and agriculture value chain. This program also helps young professionals build a strong network of peers in business, farming and government. Dr. Klopatek is excited to participate and learn from others within the program. “It's an honor to represent JBS as a Young Agri-Food Leader. I'm excited to learn from my fellow award recipients and bridge the knowledge gaps between various food and agribusiness sectors,” stated Dr. Klopatek.
