What a great day Monday at Murray State University to hand off the KAM 2024 Coolest Thing Made in Kentucky Presented by Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance Championship Trophy to the team at HempWood®! There’s an exemplary story of entrepreneurialism behind HempWood®, with a process and materials developed in collaboration with Murray State, the founders with their international experience gained in China, and the company and its two dozen employees, led by president Gregory Wilson, still very much in startup mode. Our deep thanks to all of our sponsors, particularly our Presenting Sponsor, the team at Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance. They recognize the extremely high value - measured in better jobs, stronger families, and more successful communities - of Kentucky and American manufacturing. As do the teams at CBT Company, DQS - Solutions & Staffing , and our partners at Built In The Bluegrass. And our thanks as well to our hosts, the exceptional team at Murray State University, starting with its president, Dr. Robert L (Bob) Jackson, Ed.D., and Chris Wooldridge, the director of MuSU’s Center for Economic and Entrepreneurial Development. And to Senator Rand Paul for joining us to celebrate HempWood®’s victory. Lastly, we’re grateful to all of the great companies whose 100+ products were nominated and competed in this year’s tournament. Remember: there’s always next year’s 2025 Coolest Thing Made in Kentucky Tournament. And you won’t have to compete against either the Chevrolet #Corvette, our 2023 Champion, or 2024’s HempWood®! #AmericanIngenuity #Kentucky #KYManufacturers #CoolestThingKY Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance HempWood® CBT Company DQS - Solutions & Staffing Built In The Bluegrass #KAMontheMove

The Pulaski County Detention Center's inmate re-entry program has been giving the gift of second chances since its inception in 2019, and has become a model for re-entry across the Commonwealth. On Tuesday, May 7, PCDC will officially take ownership of the warehouse where inmates receive essential technical and soft skills training that sets them up for success upon release. Read more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/gsWEHyxJ Join us for a special Somerset Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours at 5:30 p.m. May 7 as SPEDA transfers ownership of a warehouse on Thannoli Drive to the jail to continue this life-changing program. We will have a short ceremony at the warehouse, tours, and refreshments. There is no charge to attend. We hope to see you there!

Together with my colleague Amy Wombwell of BlackBox Energy Systems, who chairs KAM’s Defense and Aerospace Council, we had a great tour and discussion earlier this week with the leaders of GE Aerospace’s Madisonville turbine airfoils plant. The 350+ team members there are doing great work building critical components for America’s commercial and military aircraft sectors. Among the newly independent GE Aerospace’s 80+ major facilities worldwide, the Madisonville plant is the very first to sport the new company’s logo to the world, an outward indication of how well the facility is performing. #KAMontheMove #KYmanufacturing #innovationsinindustry
