In its 150 year history, the Kentucky Derby has produced an endless number of stories. These are tales of excitement, triumph and heartbreak, and the story of the long shot encompasses it all. These unexpected victors make for great news copy, bewildered bettors and joyous winning connections. Each long shot Kentucky Derby winner has their own unique story, as evidenced by those of the top five longest shots in Kentucky Derby history: Donerail (1913), Giacomo (2005), Mine That Bird (2009), Country House (2019) and Rich Strike (2022).

A popular exhibit among all ages, Riders Up provides the ultimate Kentucky Derby experience by competing in a simulated horse race and testing your skills as a jockey. You can choose from three different horse types (frontrunner, stalker and closer) as well as experience Churchill Downs across different eras (from 1875 to the modern day) and varied weather conditions.

The Louisville chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (LSHRM) serves human resource professionals and organizations in the Louisville community. LSHRM believes supporting the people and organizations is what matters most. One of the ways to provide that support is by transforming people and organizations through learning. LSHRM will begin offering a series of monthly professional development classes that reach across various leadership topics. Effective leaders need to be able to incorporate a positive approach to leadership, along with mastery of basic leadership skills.

The classes in this program will provide learning opportunities for LSHRM’s members and non-members looking to enhance their skills in leadership, communication, coaching, and many other topics valuable for professional development. The program will count for 36 recertification credits (HRCI and/or SHRM).

Program Logistics

Main sponsors of the program, LSHRM and HOPE, LLC; HOPE will also be the lead program administrator and designer. Instructors are listed as co-sponsors.
Classes conducted monthly virtually via Zoom from 1-4 p.m. ET; recordings available for 30 days for registered participants.
For those participants who want to quantify the impact of the program we will offer an opportunity to participate in a pre & post 360 assessment (with a one-on-one debrief) which will provide a baseline and benchmark for their success. Additional cost would be $600 for the pre-assessment and $600 for the post-assessment).
Cost for LSHRM or SHRM members: $297 per class or $2,997 upfront ($3,564 total if participants pay as they go).
Cost for Non-members: $347 per class or $3,447 upfront; bonus for paying upfront, one year membership to LSHRM ($4,164 total if participants pay as they go).

What is Finding You in Lou?

Finding You in Lou is a program created in collaboration with Greater Louisville Inc., the Metro Chamber of Commerce, Live in Lou, and the business community to help better prepare today’s students (or recent college graduates) for success in living, working and enjoying life in Louisville! Those who participate in this four-session program will have an advantage during their job search and will bring distinctive and marketable skills to the jobs they land, greatly increasing their success rate and on-the-job performance. Our goal is to provide participants with information and access to community leaders and stakeholders along with networking opportunities to grow their professional connections in the Greater Louisville region.

Who should apply for Finding You in Lou?
This free, four-week program is open to any current or recent college student in the Greater Louisville area and will offer professional development and help to prepare individuals in the early stages of their career path for success post-graduation.

Each week, participants will hear from community leaders and will have a hands-on opportunity to grow personally and professionally. These events create connections so you can meet the people who will help you grow and stay connected in Louisville. Participants will gain valuable career and personal insight through this program!

How to apply:

In collaboration with Waterfront Park, Louisville Downtown Partnership is excited to for the return of the outdoor movie night series, Downtown Drive-Ins, will transform Waterfront Park’s Brown-Forman Amphitheater into an outdoor theater experience, offering locals and visitors alike the chance to enjoy free movie screenings in the heart of the city.

The series will take place on select Friday nights through October, with the amphitheater open to the public one hour before sundown when the movies will start. Downtown Drive-Ins will include snacks and beer for purchase from local brewer Ten20 Craft Brewery, and popcorn and to-go “movie boxes” from Pig Beach BBQ, the adjacent restaurant. Movie-goers are also welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs to the viewing.

No tickets are required for the outdoor film screenings, but guests are encouraged to arrive early to save their seats. The Downtown Drive-in events are weather dependent. Dogs are allowed.

ABOUT THE COURSE:

Big Spring Course

The golf course at Big Spring Country Club resides among rolling hills, mature trees and the serenity of Beargrass Creek. Big Spring Country Club was established in 1926, and is a traditional layout with tree lined fairways, and strategically placed fairway and greenside bunkers.

Playing over 7,100 yards from the back tees, the course itself features zoysia fairways and tees and bentgrass greens. The layout requires careful attention with placement of tee shots, with a premium placed on accuracy and putting the ball in the fairway for approach shots. The green complexes require precise irons shots, as the greens are undulating, and have slopes that feed the ball to different green compartments. These immaculate greens provide for hole locations that require the ball to be correctly placed on the right level in order for golfers to have reasonable attempts at the putts they face.

In 2004, the golf course experienced a complete redesign and renovation by renowned Golf Course Architect Rees Jones and the results provide a challenge for golfers of all skill levels. In past Golf Digest “Best in State Rankings" Big Spring has ranked as high as the #2 golf course in the state of Kentucky.
