Clark Dietz water resource Engineer and Project Manager, Christopher Gutkowski, PE, CFM, ENV SP, recently presented Champaign’s 20-Year Stormwater Journey: Copper Slough Watershed Master Plan to Garden Hills and Beyond, at The Conservation Foundation’s Beyond the Basics 2024 Conference.   Chris’ presentation explores more than how Clark Dietz and the City of Champaign, Illinois designed and implemented stormwater resilience, but how economic, social, and environmental benefits were realized in these meticulously planned #stormwater infrastructure improvement projects.   Check out the full article and presentation. We’re only 10 days away! 🏃♀️   Clark Dietz, a Silver Sponsor of the Illinois Marathon, found a unique way to contribute to this year’s big weekend— course changes necessitated a traffic study to determine the location of the runners, the maintenance of traffic (MOT) from mile post 19 through 21, as well as aiding with the transition onto the Harold E Ruppel Memorial Bike Path south of Curtis Road. Additionally, we provided schedules of equipment (quantity counts) needed for the impacted municipalities.    Did you know that race weekend also includes a 5K, 10K, Half-Marathon, Youth Events, and Relay events? This week, we are highlighting our work with the University of Illinois College of Medicine. ⚙ Problem: Efficient construction with the smallest footprint 💡 Solution: Phased construction Clark Dietz provided study, design, and #construction phase services for the college to support the boiler and chiller upgrades. These services included development of demolition plans; new equipment layout; modified piping system, temperature controls, exhaust ductwork and fans; review of electrical distribution system, power connections to new equipment, conduit, wire and supporting sections; and a phased construction sequence to minimize impacts on occupied spaces. The City College of New York Professor, June Williamson, and co-author Ellen Dunham-Jones compiled a textbook titled “Case Studies in Retrofitting Suburbia.” In the text, the authors profile the Town of Normal, IL’s Uptown Circular Intersection. Clark Dietz teamed with Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects and The Farnsworth Group, Inc. to develop construction plans for the award-winning project. “[The Circle is] a marvel of hashtag #stormwater management, using tree wells, pre-existing brick storm sewers and cisterns, planted filtration bogs, and a seasonal fountain/wading pool, says Professor Williamson. “The roundabout is also a key element in the larger transformative planning effort to transition normal from an auto dependent past to a multi modal mobility future, encouraging use of passenger trains and buses, bicycles, and walking, in place of driving, for many trips.” #urbandesign #regreening #urbandevelopment
